The Grand Old Party that gave us Dan Quayle, Sarah Palin and Pat Robertson, has now resorted to a calculated scheme of lies and misinformation in bid to discredit a Democratic President. Consider the following:
1. Charge: The Christmas underwear bomber should be tried in a military court.
Fact: Under Bush;
·Richard Reid the shoe bomber who tried to take down a plane by lighting his shoe was tried and convicted in federal court. He pled guilty to all counts and is serving his sentences in the ADX Florence, a Supermax prison in Fremont County, Colorado.
·Zacharias Mousaui; the 911 so-called 19th hijacker was tried and convicted in federal court. He is currently serving a life sentence in the US.
·John Walker Lindh, the American Taliban captured on the field of battle in Afghanistan was indicted by a federal grand jury in the US where he pled guilty of all charges. In January 2003, Lindh was sent to a medium-security prison in Victorville, northeast of Los Angeles.
2.Charge: Obama will raise your taxes
Fact: Under Obama;
·Expansion of the child and dependant care tax credit that would see families earning up to $115,000 get an increase of about $2100.
·Expansion of the adjusted gross income (AGI) from $55,000 to $65,000. This will help families contribute more to their own retirement given the uncertainty of social security. The contribution breaks down to $500 credit for every $1000 contributed.
·Limited loan payments for student borrowers thereby having borrowers pay only 10% of their income over ten years.
3.Charge: Obama’s health care plan is socialism
Fact: You should be able to define Socialism before you can use the word. So if you hate government programs so much, I suggest you do away with the following;
·End welfare
·End Medicare and Medicaid
·Have all wounded soldiers seek treatment from a private hospital with private insurance instead of the government run VA
·Have your own private army because it is socialism to raise a national army that is paid for by tax payers.
Finally here is the Republican favorite lie; that they have a better plan for the broken health care system. Doesn’t it ever surprise you that in the 8 years of Reagan, 4 years of Bush senior and 8 years of Bush W, no single Republican ever proposed those good bills? And consider the fact that Under G W. Bush, they had the Presidency, and the Congress! And for those of you who are political historians, you know very well that Reagan expanded government and George W. expanded it even more, with an 8 trillion deficit to match. Last and certainly least, Republicans sunk to a new low when they claimed that President Obama was a secret Kenyan. If you don’t believe me, ask a Kenyan and you’ll find out just how stupid that sounds.
It is fitting to challenge government in a democracy, but I dare the Republican leadership to be true to their so-called values and, TELL THE TRUTH!!
The Republican Party will not vote for any healthcare bill under President Obama even if it were written by Jesus Christ and delivered by angel Gabriel. They support denial of coverage by insurance companies for pre-existing conditions. They support 47 million Americans without health care insurance using the Emergency rooms at tax payer expense. They support rising premiums for those with existing coverage and are opposed to any form of competition to the “fair” insurance industry. They are opposed to “government bureaucrats” between them and their Doctor, but don’t mind if the bureaucrat is the insurance company! [Read more →]
Raila and kibaki are in a dysfunctional marriage that must work for the sake of both their legacies and more importantly for the future of Kenya. They come from opposite political schools of thought and govern as such. On his part Raila has had a mixed bag of fortunes revered as a fighter for the second liberation yet also held in suspicion for being a political turn coat of some sorts having switched parties over and over to get to the top. Kibaki is the self styled hands off manager who is credited with revamping the Kenyan economy before the disputed elections, but a man who is whispered to have reaped the fruits of a struggle he silently watched for years as Moi’s VP when detention without trial for political prisoners was the norm. Every time there is a death of an African Head of State, the announcement is normally followed by his hospitalization abroad. Whenever there’s a crisis in any African country, it is always followed by a call for foreign troops/relief normally from a western nation. African dictators use “western imperialism,” as an excuse to stay in power as they plunder natural resources and ultimately go to exile in, you guessed it, “western countries!” Western TV goes to extreme lengths to show Africa in the worst light, often characterized by war and disease. Every so often they get to show animals in the Savannah as the only beauty in Africa. Africa; the apparent cradle of mankind must find African solutions for the continent to survive. [Read more →]
Republicans in government often trumpet at the top of their lungs that Americans should not trust a government run health care plan. They claim that a public option would raise taxes, drive away private competition and of course their top hit; government inefficiency would lead to delays in care. When Republicans lie, people die and their opposition to a public option represents a history of a party in bed with big insurance money, and out of touch with reality. [Read more →]
Ok I need to write something interesting. Something that no one has thought of yet; something so powerful and fresh that will make you fall in love with my blog. I need to write something politically romantic with an unyielding social edge, original and raw. I know how much you hate the garbage on the networks and the non-story stories that permeate the web. I feel the emptiness you feel as you watch CNN play the same story over and over with different anchors. MSNBC doesn’t disappoint with their Obama cheering squad as FOX struggles to undo eight years of championing ineptitude and utter idiocy. [Read more →]
Editor’s note: Paul Begala, a Democratic strategist and CNN political contributor, was a political consultant for Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign in 1992 and was counselor to Clinton in the White House.
Paul Begala says South Carolina’s governor should refuse to take federal aid he opposes.
If Republican politicians are so deeply opposed to President Obama’s economic recovery plan, they should refuse to take the money. After all, if you think all that federal spending is damaging, there are easy ways to reduce it: Don’t take federal money. [Read more →]
At only two weeks old, the Obama administration has been marked by a slew of scandals that threaten its very purpose of change. There was the withdrawal by Gov. Bill Richardson as nominee for commerce secretary, the Rod Blagojevich circus, Timothy Geithner, Tom Daschle and Nancy Killefer’s tax problems. And then there is the nagging question about the hiring of lobbyists into an administration that promised otherwise. The White house has been bogged down with this sideshows and lost site of the biggest embarrassment yet; the stimulus package! [Read more →]
Rush Limbaugh has demonstrated the apathy and utter idiocy of a half-wit with power. In a moment of looming economic peril, the de-facto leader of the Republican Party has resorted to school yard taunts and viral rhetoric that threatens to reduce the party he espouses to represent, into a side show of political noise. “I hope he fails,” said Limbaugh of President Obama. “We are being told that we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles, bend over forward, backward, whichever, because his father was black, because this is the first black president,” he added.
